SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, installs, maintains, and repairs complex traffic control systems, signals, components, and controllers; responds to emergency maintenance requests.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Inspects, installs, maintains, and repairs complex traffic control systems, signals, components, and controllers; installs and maintains inductive-loop traffic detectors and camera vehicle detection systems.
  • Programs traffic signal controllers, and runs conflict monitor testing units; inspects traffic control cabinets, systems, and equipment, and performs preventive maintenance; follows all safety rules, regulations, and PWD policies for traffic control on the job site; responds to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Maintains and operates PWD vehicles and equipment according to Department standards.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  • Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years' traffic signal maintenance experience.

Knowledge of:

  • Procedures, equipment, and tools used for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Traffic control and safety procedures and regulations, including MUTCD standards.

Skill in:

  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Following standard operating and safety procedures, and technical manuals and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

License and certification requirements: A Texas State Commercial Driver's License is required. IMSA Certification Level I is preferred.
