Position Summary:

The role of Adoption Coordinator is to promote the adoption of pets from the animal shelter. The position requires the individual to be customer friendly and the ability communicate well with private organizations and the general public.  The position includes required duties, including the supervision of employees engaged in shelter operations, promoting pet adoption and maintaining records from that process, and representing the animal shelter during public relations functions and events.   


Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Plans work activities, assigns work, and supervises kennel attendants, clerks and volunteers.
  2. Interprets and enforces administrative rules, regulations and policies. 
  3. Reconciles complaints with shelter operations. 
  4. Monitors all shelter operations, reports, and conducts employee training
  5. Works with outside adoption agencies 
  6. Must have the ability to address customer service well. Set good tone with the public. 
  7. Assist Animal Control Shelter Manager as needed.



 Minimum of a high school diploma or GED certification required.


One to two year(s) minimum experience dealing with the public in a customer service   related field


  • Must posses a valid Texas Drivers License.
  • Within one year from date of employment, must obtain a Euthanasia Certification from the Texas Department of Health.
  • Must be able to obtain the Basic Animal Control Certification within the first year of hire date.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to deal effectively with personnel and general public.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational skills in planning and scheduling.
  • Ability to effectively supervise personnel.
  • Must be able to function successfully under pressures of public contact activities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, outside vendors and the public is required.
  • Must be able to type 30 wpm.
  • Must be knowledgeable of associated software (Word, Excel, etc.)
